The completed and already functioning floodplain polder on the Cerekwianka River (between NSZZ Solidarności Street and Ceramiczna Street) is designed to catch water during periods of increased rainfall in order to protect the areas located at the confluence of the Cerekwianka and Mleczna rivers from flooding. Beginning of February this year was a wet period, abundant in precipitation, thanks to which we could observe how the reservoir functiones at increased flows. Currently, there is not much water in the main riverbed of the Cerekwianka river, but the polder has retained the excess from the beginning of February this year and slowly releases water to the environment through evaporation and outflow to the Cerekwianka bed. In summer, this retention will improve the local microclimate, increasing the humidity of the surroundings and softening the summer heat.
